Why it’s listed

it's volunteer-run and donation-funded1, legally represented through The Commons Conservancy with a board for oversight2, and it labels apps that depend on non-free services. Version 2.0 shipped on 24 September 20263.

The trade-off

Privacy Guides notes that apps in the main repo often lag behind on updates and are signed with F-Droid's own keys4. F-Droid says Google's planned developer verification for Android threatens how it works5.
