Tools, services and organisations that do less harm than the default choice, in 43 categories. We’re re-checking every entry against our checklist, one category at a time.
Conferences, festivals and meetups where people working on fairer tech and kinder living get together. We look for events that are still running and open about who pays for them. It’s a short list, and we’re adding to it.
Our top picks: FOSDEM, a free, volunteer-run weekend in Brussels for people who build and use free and open-source software, next held on 30 and 31 January 2027; it’s aimed at technical people and takes sponsorship to stay free. And VegfestUK, vegan festivals with food, talks and stalls in UK cities, paid for by tickets, traders and sponsors, with a 2027 date already listed.
How we choose: we check every event against the 6 principles in our manifesto (who owns it and how it makes money, what it collects, how it treats people, honesty, openness and staying power). This list was last checked on 13 October 2026.
