Tools, services and organisations that do less harm than the default choice, in 43 categories. We’re re-checking every entry against our checklist, one category at a time.
Independent magazines and newsletters on ecology, social justice, technology and better business, in print and online. For an ethical magazine, we look at who owns it and how it’s paid for. A few older titles are paused, and their cards say so.
Our top picks: Ethical Consumer, a not-for-profit co-op that has rated companies since 1989 and now covers 40,000+ brands, funded by its subscribers. And New Internationalist, a global justice magazine since 1973, co-owned by its staff and about 4,600 readers. Both sites use Google Tag Manager.
How we choose: every title is checked against the 6 principles in our manifesto (who owns it and how it makes money, what it collects, how it treats people, honesty, openness and staying power). Last checked on 13 October 2026.
